Make Westing makes their debut as the next upcoming star in Oakland’s Uptown District. Located in between Somar Bar and Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe on Telegraph avenue, this new gem comes is bound to add more flavor to the community with more than just great cocktails.
General Managers Chris Foott and Glenn Kaplan set out to create a space that is raw, comfortable, and chic. And that is just what they did.
Inspired by the story written by local East Bay author Jack London, and both of their travel experiences, the space is very open, with a industrial, blue-collar feel from the steel tables and U-shaped bar, to the concrete beams creating a very mariner-esque look that is raw and gritty. Where else can you find a compass on a bar to help you find your way to the best libations! There is also outdoor seating, but the most unique addition to this space is the 2 Full – Indoor Bocce Ball courts that takes drinking games to a whole new level.
And speaking of drinks…. In addition to carrying locally sourced beers on tap (like our friends at Linden Street) they also have a specialty drink menu to quench the thirst of the snarkiest of palates. Try their Killer Bee Martini (Vodka, Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur, Lemon), the Chilcano (Pisco, Lime, Ginger Ale, Bitters), or Mojito Royale for starters. Our favorites were the Nutty Professor and the Garden Gimlet…East Bay Loop recommended.
They also will have a small food menu ranging from unique sandwiches to bar bites that we know will defintely complement their drinks.
Our opening impression – Why haven’t you been there yet? Your next trip to the Uptown should include this location on your treasure map
And whatever you do, make westing! make westing!
