Berkeley, CA/June 2017 – Gather in Berkeley is your new destination for craft libations thanks to the introduction of its “510 Happy Hour” featuring $5.00 draft beer and $10.00 pricing on 15 artisan cocktails from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. With micro-seasonal small plates and snacks perfect for cocktail pairing and sharing, Gather (and its private garden patio) is the perfect place to relax and meet up after work or before catching a show on campus or downtown.
The restaurant’s dynamic cocktail menu, crafted by Bar Manager Jacob Kardon and Beverage Director Dan Sheel (named a 30 under 30 Zagat star for 2016), highlights small batch ingredients along with hand crafted house made liqueurs, sodas and infusions that reflect the best of the season. Wines (including all night Wine Wednesday specials) focus on West Coast producers committed to sustainable, low impact viticulture practices, while the beer selection showcases independent craft brewers who exemplify Northern California’s pioneering beer culture. The cocktail menu is divided into Aperifis, Refreshing, Dry & Herbal, Egg Whites and Spiritous and features enticing names and combinations including Alysian Hi-Ball (Alysian bittersweet vermouth, dry curaçao, lemon, soda), West Indy (Lo-Fi gentian amaro, gin, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple cordial) Northern Exposure (blended scotch, Earl Grey maple, lemon, egg white, bitters) and the Bitter American (bourbon, Montenegro, bitters).
Gather has been a culinary groundbreaker since it came on the Berkeley dining scene in 2009 with a commitment to promoting wholly organic food and biodynamic drinks. Executive Chef Charis Wahl (who started as sous in 2009 and worked her way up) prepares a changing roster of award-winning omnivore and vegetarian options utilizing ingredients sourced from small family farms enhanced by sustainable seafood and humanely-raised meats butchered in-house. With a diverse background of cooking at top East Bay spots from Cal-Italian at Rivoli to Japanese at Ozumo, Charis incorporates a variety of modern and old-world techniques and global flavors into her dishes. She expertly uplifts Gather’s approach of using peak-season produce as well as foraged finds that has earned Gather recognition and awards from Michelin Bib Gourmand, the New York Times, Esquire Magazine, Diablo Magazine, Food & Wine and the Oakland Tribune, in addition to earning it a consistently solid 4 stars on Yelp.
The restaurant’s interior design is as sustainable as its menu. Recycled leather belts serve as upholstered bench seats, fisherman netting encases distinctive chandeliers, a rough-hewn fallen tree wood slab serves as a countertop and a wall art installation in the bar is balanced by tables, banquettes and doors made from a former water tank and school bleacher benches. Highlights of the charming heated (and shaded) urban garden patio include a fire pit and water-saving plantings.
Gather Restaurant is located at 2200 Oxford Street, at the corner of Allston Way, in Berkeley, California across from the UC campus and one black off Shattuck Avenue.
